If you want a brighter smile, Chase Side Dental offers teeth whitening treatments in Enfield. It can be difficult to know which one to choose. At Chase Side Dental, we often get asked why patients should have their teeth whitened with us, rather than simply buying a kit from a supermarket or beauty shop.
Let’s break down the key differences and explain why teeth whitening provided by a professionally trained dental team is a better choice than over-the-counter kits.
To whiten your teeth, either you or your dentist will use whitening agents. These chemicals gently break down staining on your enamel, leaving your smile brighter.
There is an extensive range of teeth-whitening kits available today. These can include gels, strips, trays and even LED light systems, which claim to speed up the process.
Many patients find these an attractive option due to their low cost and the convenience of being able to whiten your teeth at home rather than having to visit the dentist.
However, there are a number of potential problems with over-the-counter treatments.
For example, many patients report that they can be less effective and take longer to work. This is because, according to UK regulations, over-the-counter teeth-whitening kits can only contain 0.1% hydrogen peroxide or carbamide, which means that they are not as effective as professional teeth whitening kits prescribed by a dentist.
They can also sometimes cause discomfort and sensitivity, and give uneven results if they’re not applied properly. In rare cases, they can even burn your gums or wear down your tooth enamel; to get around the legislation on teeth-whitening chemicals, some companies use alternatives such as sodium chlorite, which can erode the enamel if overused.
Our Pola™ whitening kits are safe, and are available in different strengths for choice and convenience. The gel we use is highly viscous and pH-neutral to protect your teeth and gums; it also contains a fluoride-releasing agent to reduce tooth sensitivity.
Before you use our teeth-whitening kits, we’ll book you in for a consultation so that we can ensure that your teeth and gums are healthy enough to have teeth-whitening treatment. After that, an appointment is scheduled to take impressions. Once the bleaching trays have been made, we will give you details on how to use them. We’ll also book you in for repeat appointments so we can keep an eye on your progress and address any concerns.
Before you start using your home kit, your dentist will discuss the best treatment for you, how long teeth whitening will take, which food and drink to avoid, possible side effects (for example, temporary sensitivity) and how to manage it. If you have a history of tooth sensitivity, your initial prescription will contain a lower concentration of whitening agent to begin with.
You’ll also be provided with a breakdown of the cost of your whitening, with no hidden charges. Please note that the only people who are legally authorised to administer teeth whitening treatment in the UK are GDC (General Dental Council) accredited dentists, so anyone else claiming to offer this professionally may be a scammer.
If you would like more in-depth information on how we do things in Enfield, we’ve prepared this document which goes through our teeth whitening process in detail and lets you know what to expect.
Although the low cost can be appealing, shop-bought teeth whitening kits can damage your gums and enamel, resulting in needing more expensive dental procedures in the future. Before you start professional teeth whitening with us, we will ask you questions about your medical and dental history to ensure this is the right choice.
If you choose our professional teeth whitening kits, the results can last for years as they are used and trusted by dental professionals around the UK.
In contrast, if you buy a kit online, or in a supermarket or beauty shop, they will frequently take a long time to work. Without custom impressions of your teeth by experienced dental professionals, your teeth may not fit the trays properly and your teeth may whiten unevenly.
Only a trained, GDC-accredited dentist is qualified to deliver teeth whitening treatment. With teeth whitening kits from shops or online, there is little or no support or advice given on how to get the best outcome. Our dentists will give you detailed guidance on how to use your kit safely and for the best results. We will also schedule regular check-ups to assess your progress and overall dental health.
As the formula used in our kits to lighten your teeth is stronger than what you can buy over the counter, they will give even results and take a shorter time to start working. As they are used and trusted by hundreds of patients in Enfield, you can be confident that our professional teeth whitening treatment will make your smile brighter.

Teeth can become discoloured in a number of ways. They are frequently discoloured by certain foods, including beetroot or turmeric, or if you frequently drink coffee, fizzy drinks or red wine. The chemicals in cigarette smoke can also stain your teeth. Although a good oral care routine can often slow or prevent this, once a stain takes hold it is difficult to dislodge.
Tooth decay can also cause discolouration, as well as some health conditions. Additionally, as you age, tooth enamel can start to wear down, changing the appearance of your teeth as the darker material (dentine) underneath begins to show.
Don’t panic! Please book an appointment as soon as possible so that we can help.
Only accredited dentists are qualified to give tooth whitening treatment, so we do not recommend this. To book a consultation, please contact us here.
Unfortunately, only natural teeth whiten and the procedure will not work with composite bonding, crowns or veneers. Our dental team recommend booking whitening treatment before or alongside your composite bonding – this way, you can choose a brighter shade when you have your composites applied.
Before the teeth whitening process, we’ll always assess your overall oral health for decay or other issues, as well as offering support and guidance on how to whiten your teeth at home.
However, there are no such checks online or from shops, increasing the risk of something going wrong. Additionally, we use custom whitening trays created from impressions of your teeth to ensure the gel is distributed evenly and safely – shop-bought kits cannot do this.
Our home bleaching kits do not harm the teeth or gums; the pH in the whitening gel is neutral, and dentists have been using peroxide-based whitening treatments for over 50 years with no known side effects. However, some DIY kits in shops contain an acid rinse which may wear down your enamel over time, as well as other harmful chemicals.

I am completely satisfied with the treatment I receive. My dental maintenance is very challenging for you due to my ongoing medical situation. I appreciate the time you take to work out the best option, explain everything to me and then skilfully carry out the agreed procedure.
I feel confidant that I am receiving the best dental care and can’t thank you enough. Thanks also go to the other members of your team.

My family is relatively new to the practice, under the care of Deborah and Luciana, for which we would like to take this opportunity, to complement them on their professionalism, their care and the way they interact with us, which is always friendly and informative.
I'm generally not a fan of trips to the dentist, but my experiences with them have put me at ease and under their guidance, seen an overall improvement in my dental health, for which I am grateful.
